Won Cashback!!! Fraud

Avi is playing a game /surfing facebook or just working on his phone, all of a sudden he sees an ad or receives a notification that he has just won cashback !!!!

Elated/curious he clicks on the link ... it takes you to a webpage ... where there is a scratch card waiting for you from one of the payment companies. He clicks on the image and it says you have won 1999/-

Up comes a pop up which says click to claim this reward and he clicks on the same. Next the payment page of his favorite app opens up.

The message or the header seems to state that he has just won cashback, he feels lucky... feels it was the easiest way to get money... he clicks on pay button , next it asks him to enter PIN , he enters his UPI PIN and next screen says ...

..Voila payment deducted, avi just have transferred 1999 to someone else. Avi looks confused , what did just happen . He was about to receive cashback , why did money go from his bank...

Avi just fell pray to a new way of fraud on the internet. This is called Intent fraud /fake cashback fraud for website. Avi was lured onto a fake website via a ad/notification from his mobile and lands on a fake website like upi-offers.in or cashback-rewards.com

While these fraudsters and cybercrime keep evolving , your security is in your hands , the simplest way to stay safe is :

If you have fallen for this please report the same to company and your bank. Most often the company can try and ban the fraudster so that no one else falls for the same. If possible most of these companies do try to retrieve the funds which may or may not happen.
